Wish for Patients | 2015
A digital Shoji studio and communal sculpture meant to highlight the cooperative nature of patient care — that every entity and provider in the healthcare ecosystem is in this together.
Client: Astellas
Audience: oncologists
Role: experiential creative lead, art direction, interaction design
Guided by instructions on screen, each visitor used a bristled stylus to “paint” the Japanese Kanji character for “wish.” This unlocked a message:
“Astellas is a global pharmaceutical company with Japanese roots. We aspire to improving the lives of patients worldwide.”
Patient care is a communal act
The user selected a wish for cancer patients and was given a talisman to correspond to their selection. They placed the talisman on the communal sculpture.
Making good on Astellas’ goodwill
Astellas was using this tradeshow as an opportunity to simply say, “Hey, we’re in this for the patients too. And we want to hear from you how we can improve this ecosystem that we’re both part of. We’re not selling anything, just listening.” And to put this commitment into action, Astellas made a donation to CancerCare.org for every interaction.
Results
